Privacy & Cookie Policy
This policy explains how BioVeL.eu collects and uses data when you visit this website, and what rights you have under applicable data protection law — including the UK GDPR, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679), and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Who We Are
BioVeL.eu is an independent biodiversity science reference website. For data protection purposes, the operator of this site is the individual or entity listed in the site's legal contact information. Queries about data handling can be submitted via the contact page.
What Data We Collect
This website does not collect personal data beyond what is automatically transmitted by your browser as part of a standard HTTP request (IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited). This data is recorded in server access logs for security and operational purposes only.
We do not run any analytics services (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no similar tracking). We do not use advertising networks, marketing pixels, or behavioural profiling tools of any kind.
If you submit a message via the contact page, the information you provide (name, email address, and message content) is used solely to respond to your enquiry. It is not shared with third parties and is retained only as long as necessary to address your communication.
Cookies
This website does not set any cookies of its own. No session cookies, no persistent cookies, no tracking cookies.
The only possible cookie activity arises from third-party services embedded on specific pages:
- Fonts: Typefaces are served via Bunny Fonts (bunny.net), a privacy-respecting font CDN that does not set cookies and does not log identifiable user data. No Google Fonts CDN is used.
Because this site sets no first-party cookies and embeds no tracking services, no cookie consent banner is required under PECR or the EU Cookie Directive for standard browsing.
Server Logs
Our hosting provider automatically records standard server access logs. These contain IP addresses, request timestamps, URLs visited, HTTP status codes, and browser user-agent strings. Logs are retained for a limited period for security and diagnostic purposes, after which they are deleted. We do not use log data for profiling, advertising, or any purpose beyond operational security.
Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to:
- Request access to any personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request erasure of your personal data where there is no overriding legitimate basis for retention
- Object to processing of your personal data
- Request restriction of processing
- Lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority (in the UK: the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk; in EU member states: your national DPA)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact page.
Third-Party Links
This site contains links to external websites — scientific databases, journals, and conservation organisations. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third-party sites and recommend reviewing their policies independently.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated periodically. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
