Instance: Refers to any running process or to the creation of a computational object during a run.

Integrity: Concerns the protection of information that is exchanged – either from unauthorised writing or inadvertent corruption. Integrity refers to the assurance that information that has been exchanged has not been altered.

Interface: Named set of operations that characterise the behaviour of an entity (in BioVeL for Web services). (ISO 19119:2005)

Interoperability: Capability to communicate, execute programs, or transfer data among various functional units in a manner that requires the user to have little or no knowledge of the unique characteristics of those units (ISO 19119:2005)

Invasive species: Introduced, non-indigenous or non-native species that have a detrimental ecological, environmental or economical effect on the habitats they invade.
